Unexpected Retreat at Makiling Onsen Hotel

We were looking for place to stay near UPLB and tried to reserve accommodation within the campus. Unfortunately, we were told that the place we booked has a curfew and we might not be able to go in our room after midnight. Being the night owl that we are, we tried a book another hotel online.  Good thinking!

We found Makiling Onsen Hotel. In Japan, Onsen is a hot spring bathing facility and is popular for health benefits. This hotel is offering that unique Onsen experience to guest. We were not able to try it. But we did enjoy looking at the decorations in the room and found it a little bit eclectic for a Japanese-themed hotel.

We booked a twin room for a discounted price and surprised by how big the room is.  But we were too tired to even use the other furnitures. We did use the TV and noticed that they provide few refreshments.

We happily read some of the wall decors of the hotel. So cheesy, don't you think?

The bed is definitely good for one person only. As a couple, we have different opinion on the comfort level of the bed mattress. We agreed that it is acceptable for someone who does not mind how hard or soft the mattress.

If you want to experience bathing in Onsen privately, dressing in a Yukata and enjoying a peace and quiet stay, this hotel is for you. But if you are an outdoor type of person, craves for adventure and looks for stunning views, this hotel is not for you. The hotel has a pool and restaurant but it is not near any other outdoor activity not even a convenience store. We were not able to use or see the other hotel amenities like KTV bar, billiards and gym since we just wanted to have a place to stay for the night. The hotel has parking area but you might want to call ahead of your check-in to inform them if you are bringing your own vehicle.

The hotel is worth the price (less than Php 2,300) considering that it includes breakfast for 2 and 1-hour private Onsen bath. We might get to try the Onsen or the Yukata next time. After all, we are here to create happy memories, so why not try a new one.

If you are interested, the hotel is accessible via a bus ride bound to Santa Cruz, Laguna from the bus terminal in Cubao or Buendia. You can just ask the driver or conductor to drop you near Splash Mountain. The hotel is on the right side of the road and just in front of Splash Mountain. Take note of following details in the hotel's fb account.

Enjoy!!!
