Shopping Center and the Famous Rodic's Diner

Image
For some reason, we both love dropping by the Shopping Center when we visit UP Diliman. If you are looking for low cost photocopy services and UP memorabilia, this is my best bet to find one. Most of the time, we drop by this simple diner. Any UP student studying in Diliman should at least try this diner once in their lifetime. Rodic's is a simple diner with that usual 'carinderia' feel. Aside from their famous tapsilog, it also offers other viand (around Php 85 plus) and rice (Php 15). A must try is their ever famous tapsilog! Yeah! That very finely shredded tapa and fried rice. Less 'litid' like some tapsilog.  It only cost Php 85. From time to time, they increase the price of their tapsilog and other viands but still the same quality through the years.   Rodic's has few branches other than Stall No. 9 at UP Shopping Center. You can also try their tapsilog at the following: Masaya St. corner Maginhawa St. at UP Village, Diliman,...

Share thy Blessing at Kanlungan sa ER-MA: Make a difference!

We always have a yearly gift giving activity. Doing it every Christmas is a normal activity for us. However, some of the institutions we have been visiting said that their Christmas schedule has been very tight in contrast with their normally relaxed schedule during the rest of the year. This gave us an idea. For a change, we decided to start the year a little different by giving back and sharing our blessings to our less fortunate brothers and sisters. Trying to make the 1st day of the year - an extension of Christmas Day. Our relatives told us that they know of an orphanage needing some support. Without any hesitation and further questions, we went to the orphanage and gave our small gift. Even without prior notice, the caretaker welcomed us. Unfortunately the kids were busy with their presentation to their donors/ sponsors, so we were not able to meet and greet them personally which is quite alright for us. We learned that this is the residential center for girls. They are...

Revisiting Bohol: Taste of the Local Life - Mabaw Reef

Image
Aside from the very inexpensive fee at Cainglet's home, we found a local ecotourism site just a few meters away. We were told that Mabaw reef is declared a protected area and home to unique species of corals and fish. Since no one knows how to dive, we decided to just hang-out in the area. Signage located near the stairs Slippery when wet From the Cainglet's home, we walked to the Cainget Road and down to the cement stairs leading to the Mabaw Reef. Food stalls abound the area and exotic dishes and drinks are available. View from the top of the stairs Local food stalls More food stalls We summoned all our bravery and wits to sample exotic local delights! If you want to try it, we suggest to eat a very light meal specially if you plan to eat kinilaw na coja (or kodya). Coja still in a shell Local food Lato or seaweeds - Php 20 per serving Kinilaw na Coja (Raw shell fish in vinegar) - Php 25 for small serving & Php 40...

Revisiting Bohol: Homestay at Cainglet's House

Image
There are plenty of choices to stay in Bohol depending on the activities you want to experience. A hotel in Alona Beach, Panglao Island is a good choice if you want to experience the beach bum life. But if you want to see the local life, a hotel in Tagbilaran City can be a good start. For our second visit, we tried a new way - the homestay. We did not stay at a hotel or pension house but a home of a local for a minimal fee. Cainglet's home is only a tricycle ride away from the airport. It is very convenient if you want to explore Tagbilaran City. It become our top choice since we intend to discover more of Bohol and the local culture. It is a good starting point for experiencing the local life! Compared to a room at a hotel, our room isn't spacious but it has all the basic amenities. Towels and toiletries are provided. A double deck bed is also available. The Comfort Room is communal but it is located just beside the rooms. For just Php 400 per person/ day (...
